What CBD Dosage Should I Start With?
We are often asked about the dosage and directions of use when someone first starts using a CBD product. Many people are afraid that they might “over-do” their dosage. Although it is always wise to ‘start low and go slow.’ The concern expressed about using too much is usually because consumers get mixed up between CBD and THC.
CBD is a cannabinoid found in the cannabis plant and it works at a cellular level. The human body naturally contains a specialized system called the endocannabinoid system (ECS). Which is involved in regulating a variety of functions including sleep, appetite, pain, and immune system response. Cannabidiol (or CBD for short) naturally complements the ECS.
Unlike THC, CBD does not produce a “high” that is associated with marijuana.

More on Dosages
As mentioned above, a general rule of thumb that our Pharmacist and Holistic Cannabis Practitioner Sean Willard always mentions is to “start low, go slow.” Everyone’s situation is unique and while one person may require 5 mg a day, another will find that 20 mg is good for them. The required dosage may be influenced by factors. Such as body weight, dosage form, and your unique endocannabinoid system.
The best way to find the right dose for your body is to start with a very low dose (2 mg, for example) and increase by 2-5 mg per serving until you find the dose that works for you. However, never exceed the maximum allowable dose per day of 20 mg (as per the Department of Health and SAHPRA).
Always speak to your doctor before taking CBD as a supplement, especially if you are taking any other prescription medication.
